What does the treatment process look like?2024-05-29T16:31:27+00:00

Every treatment begins with a discussion with the patient. We recommend bringing along a partner, family member or acquaintance who knows the patient’s sleeping habits. If the patient is eligible for treatment, sessions of approx. 45 minutes each are arranged every 2 to 3 weeks. Experience has shown that as few as three sessions lead to an improvement or the desired success. It is highly recommended and often just as necessary for the patient to have an accompanying check-up using appropriate apps such as SnoreLab and an additional analysis in the sleep laboratory in order to develop a complete picture of the various components involved, to locate possible sleep apnoea and other sleep-related breathing disorders and thus to provide targeted treatment in a team with other doctors.

Who is this method suitable for?2024-05-29T16:31:13+00:00

The method is ideal for people of normal weight whose snoring is mainly caused by the soft palate. As wonderful as this treatment may be, it clearly has its limitations. Appropriate lifestyle and nutritional advice is advisable. Snoring caused by the tongue, nose and/or obesity cannot be treated with this method. Studies have shown that Nightlase therapy is increasingly less effective in patients with a body mass index of over 28.

What are the advantages of the Nightlase method?2024-05-29T16:30:54+00:00

The great advantage of this method is that the treatment is generally painless to painless for the patient and they remain fully functional after the treatment. The therapy is comparatively inexpensive and, in contrast to most other therapies, has no negative side effects but better chances of success.

What treatment options are there?2024-05-29T16:30:39+00:00

There are various treatment options depending on the cause. The spectrum ranges from diets, changes in sleeping habits and sleep appliances to surgical interventions. For the soft palate, a revolutionary and highly innovative laser procedure called Nightlase has recently become available. This involves tightening the soft palate and its adjacent areas with a laser. The laser used for this works in a similar way to the device used by dermatologists to smooth out wrinkles.

When does snoring require treatment?2024-05-29T16:30:24+00:00

In our opinion, treatment is already advisable when snoring reduces rest during sleep and affects everyday life, e.g. through daytime tiredness, lack of concentration, increased blood pressure and corresponding health problems that should not be underestimated. Patients often only realize after treatment that they had previously slept less well. From a social point of view, treatment is of course appropriate if you are constantly waking the person next to you and your social environment suffers as a result.

What are the most common causes?2024-05-29T16:30:04+00:00

It is often a combination of different factors. A common cause is a soft palate that is too slack, but the tongue going slack in deep sleep also causes noises. Alcohol, narcotic use and allergies can also trigger snoring or make it worse.

Who is mainly affected?2024-05-29T16:29:17+00:00

It can affect anyone, but people who are overweight are more frequently affected. In addition to the person who snores, people in the immediate social environment are always affected. It is not uncommon for snoring to cause relationship problems.

How common is snoring in the population?2024-05-29T16:28:59+00:00

Snoring is very widespread and increases with age. According to specialist journals, around 44 percent of men and 28 percent of women snore, from the age of 25 to 40 and beyond.
